Earth Protex Portugal (EP) is a material science and technology company focused on circular and bio-based solutions for the textile industry. EP develops waste-to-resource technologies that enable fibre-to-fibre recycling, extending material lifecycles and reducing reliance on virgin resources. Its activities are centred on scalable, low-impact textile innovations designed for industrial deployment within existing manufacturing infrastructures.
EP’s R&D and industrial activities support textile value-chain actors in their transition towards circular production models, with a strong focus on yarn engineering, recycled fibre valorisation, and market-ready solutions.
In the CISUTAC consortium, EP is:
Leading the development and scale-up of UpSpun™, a proprietary hybrid yarn spinning technology enabling fibre-to-fibre recycling of cotton
Enabling the re-spinning of short, mechanically recycled cotton fibres that cannot be processed through conventional spinning systems
Delivering hybrid yarns with
low pilling propensity,
reduced microfiber shedding,
improved yarn evenness,
and enhanced durability
Combining recycled cotton with man-made cellulosic and synthetic filaments to achieve cotton-like hand feel, moisture management, and near-virgin performance
Optimising yarn structures and material combinations to support pilot-scale validation and industrial readiness
Supporting the industrial uptake and exploitation of circular cotton yarns within European textile value chains
