Preparing for the Digital Product Passport: CISUTAC’s Open Data Guide

Europe, with its ambitious sustainability agenda, faces both an urgent challenge and a unique opportunity: transforming post-consumer textile waste into valuable secondary raw materials. Achieving this, however, is not simply about scaling up recycling infrastructure, it requires a fundamental shift in how data is shared, accessed, and managed across the textile value chain. Transparent, harmonised, and accessible product data will determine whether circularity in the sector remains an aspiration or becomes a reality.

CISUTAC partners RISE and GTS released an Open Data Guide that addresses precisely this challenge. The guide explores how the textile industry can overcome the critical bottleneck of insufficient data accessibility, laying out practical steps for brands, recyclers, and other stakeholders in the value chain to prepare for the forthcoming Digital Product Passport under the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation.

Oxfam Belgium launches second-hand clothes campaign with CISUTAC

CISUTAC partner Oxfam Belgium is redefining secondhand fashion with the Infinity Collection, because great clothes deserve infinite lives. Through clever storytelling and innovative visuals, including the striking 'infinity mirror' effect, the campaign brings to life how one piece of clothing can continue shining with different owners.

CISUTAC at DPP4EU

In June 2025, our project coordinator Centexbel presented the CISUTAC project at the DPP4EU conference, an event for publicly-funded collaborative innovation projects dedicated to digitalisation and sharing of material or product information. They explained how CISUTAC is offering practical first steps for organising processes and data to support sorting and recyclibility, and how we provide strategic guidance to enable the delipent of a digital ecosystem. CISUTAC at Circular Summit Fryslân 2025

Recently, CISUTAC was presented during the Circular Summit Fryslân 2025, in the Netherlands. The event, which highlighted the power of regions in shaping a circular future, brought together 150 circular changemakers to foster international cooperation. Our partner ACR+, who hosted their General Assembly as part of the event, showcased the objectives and activities of CISUTAC.

Centexbel gets EREMA recycling pilot-scale line for CISUTAC

CISUTAC coordinator Centexbel visited our project partner EREMA to discover their new recycling pilot-scale line specialised in the thermo-mechanical processing of polyester. This compact version of our partner EREMA Group ’s renowned recycling system is purpose-built for fibre-to-fibre recycling. The line enables the production of high-purity, enhanced PET granules ready for melt spinning into high-quality textiles. The unit has now been delivered to Centexbel.

Oxfam’s second hand campaign on Irish TV

On 19 September, Second Hand September ambassador Aisling Bea appeared as a guest on the Late Late Show on Irish TV. During the interview, she spoke about her partnership with Oxfam Ireland in the Second Hand September campaign, as part of the CISUTAC project. Dressed head-to-toe in second hand outfit, the actress highlighted the benefits of reusing clothes and shared her personal connection with second hand shops and clothing.

CISUTAC at the ECOSYSTEX Conference 2025

In September, CISUTAC project partners from TEXFOR, Centexbel, EURATEX, Wargön Innovation, Wageningen University & Research, RISE and Textile ETP attended the third ECOSYSTEX Conference in Gothenburg, Sweden.

A special highlight was the exclusive visit to RISE's research facilities and labs, where participants explored research infrastructure in fiber development (solution and melt spinning), textile recycling (mechanical and chemical processes), and textile testing, analysis, and certification.

CISUTAC meets in Genoa, Italy for penultimate GA

On 29-30 October 2025, the CISUTAC consortium met in Genoa, Italy, for its penultimate General Assembly. Partners shared progress on circular consumer behaviour, textile repair and sorting pilots, polyester fibre-to-fibre recycling, the challenges and opportunities in boosting green public procurement, and the recently published open data guide for Digital Product Passports. The meeting, hosted by STAM, also included a visit to their laboratories and facilities.

ECOSYSTEX, the European Community of Practice for a Sustainable Textile Ecosystem, launched in early 2023, counts now 76 EU-funded member projects. Since June 2025, ECOSYSTEX has extended its Horizontal Working Groups to now also include Skills & Education, and textile-related EU-funded skills and education projects can now also become ECOSYSTEX members.

ECOSYSTEX Conference 2025: New Technologies and Business Models for Textile Circularity

The third ECOSYSTEX Conference took place in Gothenburg, Sweden, from 29 September to 1 October 2025, in partnership with RISE Research Institutes of Sweden. The event brought together professionals from across the entire textile value chain to explore how emerging technologies and innovative business models can accelerate the transition toward a circular textile economy.

This year’s edition was organised in collaboration with six EU-funded projects: PESCO-UP, SOLSTICE, tExtended, Hemp4Circularity, BioFibreLoop, and WhiteCycle. Together they offered a dynamic platform for discussion and experimentation around textile circularity.

With more than 150 participants joining in Gothenburg, the conference featured policy dialogues, hands-on workshops, and interactive sessions, all designed to connect research and innovation with real-world applications.

The ECOSYSTEX Insights Series continues!

Explore the latest in textile sustainability and circularity research and innovation on Friday 14 November 2025! This 18th ECOSYSTEX webinar will spotlight on three projects, PROPLANET, Zero F, and RegioGreenTex, as they reach their conclusion and share their final results, key learnings, and real-world impact.

From new bio-based and PFAS-free coatings for textiles to matchmaking platforms for surplus textiles, this session will offer opportunities to get valuable insights and connect with others working toward a more circular and resilient industry.
